Sling sale!

Oh man! My favorite sling maker, Kangaroo Korner, is having a sale. From an e-mail:

For the first time ever, all Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Pouches and Children’s Slings are on sale, 25-50% off! All fabrics including Fleece, All-Season, Mesh and Solarveil are on sale for a limited time.

I recommend the Fleece or Cotton Twill pouch. Mackie, at almost 18 months, won’t stand for it any more but I got a lot of use out of mine the first 6 months or so:

napped

An A-plus way to knock ‘em out and keep ‘em quiet. Muy bien.

Knitting: the Toasty handwarmer

Last month I was poking around the internet for easy armwarmer patterns and hit upon a good one: Toast/Toasty.

'Toasty' handwarmer

I found the pattern for these fingerless mitts on a blog called A Friend To Knit With; I printed it immediately and even went so far as to order a copy of the Toast catalog, which arrived a before Thanksgiving and was utterly swoony.

I made a pair of these out of Cascade 220 for my sister and these ones, in green Patons wool, for myself. I have one more inch to knit on the second one for me and then I’ll be done, and both my hands will be warm.

I was not made to model

Like holidays of yore, but with more beer

It’s weird getting together with adult siblings. You know you’ve all come from the same household, the same parents … but there’s really no telling what mental spin they’ve put on the experience. I wonder what their personal narratives are, how they explain my family to other people. I assume that my interpretation is the superior one, being the oldest and the smartest and the most mature, but I grant that maybe their perspective has some merit, too.

Some nice things I like

  • Knitting handwarmers
  • watching Lord of the Rings
  • making gingerbread house
  • eating peanut butter cookies
  • Pollyeye’s breadsticks and beer
  • Children’s Wonderland at the Lucas County Rec Center
  • buying Christmas decorations
  • having my husband’s Christmas present chosen, bought, paid for and delivered
  • knowing that his new dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw is going to cut me my quarter-round molding
  • planning a pirate-themed birthday party for my soon-to-be four-year-old
