As done as we’re going to get!

I had grander plans for this room, as I always do, but we kind of blew our stash on fixing the the actual problems (unlevel floors, water damage, rotted wood, rotten doors, ad nauseum) and it didn’t leave much left over for gussying up. So I bought some curtains and some pillows and a toy box, brought in furniture from other parts of the house, and arranged it to the best of my ability.

The one long wall is hilariously blank, because the bookshelves are nowhere near done and I just don’t feel like hanging art just yet. We’re kind of waiting on something. A big vague something. So the place is still echoey and that rug makes it look like the set of a high school play, but I don’t care. The green carpet is gone! Gone gone gone! The leaks are fixed and the floor is fresh and clean and there’s a place to sit and play a board game or read a book. I moved our displaced junk out of the rest of the house’s living areas and back to its rightful spot (or at least the attic) and now we can finally get back to living again.

the kids love that lamp.

I say AWESOME. As many times as I’ve wanted to take a sledgehammer to my bathroom, this helps me understand that it is possible. You fixed the big issues, and you’ve added mucho equity to the home which is the best thing you can do (I’m in the real estate biz, so I say this with some degree of expertise). It’s a blank canvas with endless possibilities. Congrats on a job well done!

It looks great! Love the picture of the boys playing on the computer.

Congrats on finishing the room thus far!! Think of this as a chance to really find and finalize exactly what you want to do with the room. Plus, someone is bound to have a kick-ass sale this summer!

It’s great. So fresh! So light!

Also, I love the pantsless boy(s?)

Oh, that looks so great! The “getting back to living” is the most important part, isn’t it? Just get more things for the room as you go along.

I think it turned out great. You can always gussy it up later. ;o)

    Lovin’ the nekkid bum, too.

a- hysterical that you compared the carpet to a HS play set. i totally get that. but the room does look great. nice and clean and fresh. even if it still echoes.
b- how mac-sassy to see 2 kids playing on one as brothers. perfect ad for “macs 4 moms!”

@clare thanks! and thanks for that encouragment about equity. I still don’t understand it but I always carry the general notion in the back of my mind when we do this sort of thing.

@barb thank you, I liked that as well.

@christina thanks! and good point about the sales!

@juliloquy ha! I didn’t even notice the bare heinie until I posted this. (Mac, I believe, is fully dressed.) Ah, potty training.

@elizabeth definitely, the getting back to living is so relaxing. We don’t have to stay up til all hours trying to squeeze in work, and we don’t have to live with six cardboard boxes taking up room in the bedroom. LOVE that.

@nikko thank you! It’s nice to just have it done and livable, and yes, we can do whatever we like later. So that’s nice.

@christina hee. glad you found it funny as well.
