Crockpot challenge: Faux Toledo

Tonight: Chicken Paprikash, like a good Toledo girl should. Sadly, this was not my best work. In fact, it was barely edible. Sometimes the crockpot turns meat dry and sawdusty, and I don’t know why, and that’s what happened this time.

So. No leftovers! Which is sad, because I was really hoping for a taste of Tony Packo’s in my own kitchen.

But on the plus side, I made my own pretzels yesterday. Heavens to Betsy Friedan, these were good.

Homemade pretzel

So nobody around here’s starving, that’s what I’m saying.

  1. Wow, your pretzel is all, pretzel-shaped! I made the recipe in Mollie Katzen’s “Honest Pretzels” cookbook once, and my pretzels were these odd lumps.

  2. See, now you had to go and mention Tony Packo’s! All I’m thinking is that it’s only a 12 hour drive. Maybe I’ll stop at Big Boy while I’m there…

  3. Those pretzels look so good! I can almost smell them. As for the crock pot meal…it may have had too little water in it or you may have too big a crock pot. I know my big one will dry out food as fast as you can say crock pot if I don’t fill it at least 3/4th of the way full. Just a tip. :)

  4. thanks for the tip, Safire!

    @elizabeth: true confession — i picked the best, least lumpy one to photograph.

    @christina: my sister could get you a discount …

    @xdm: aha! yes.
