Baby me

While visiting my parents, I dug up some photos of me as a baby. My folks don’t have a scanner, so I resorted to photographing the pictures right in the album.

Maybe I do look like Cormac. Or vice-versa.

Me at two.

Some of these I’ve never seen before. It’s crazy. I can’t believe that cute kid on the duck (chicken? rooster?) is me. Look at me! With all my original teeth. And blonde hair.

Kind of sad to think of all the awful things that will happen — I mean, not terrible. But still — broken hearts and broken jaws and hurt feelings and cruelty and everything that happens to a person. Kind of sad to think that such things will have to happen to Owen and Cormac, too.

I need some chocolate.

That IS sad to think about. But, would you change your life? The way it happened? I often think about this. I don’t think I would.

    Very cute baby pics!

Everybody has to have hurt feelings as they grow up, or else they won’t know what NOT to do or say to others. :) It’s all for the best, and makes us better people.

I was never allowed to ride the animals-on-giant-spring toys, as my parents were convinced I would knock out my front teeth. I now look to you as a source of irony. :)

I just had this conversation with a Child Psychologist at a birthday party (not Franklin’s) and we’ve come to the conclusion that if these crappy things don’t happen to us in adolescence, we won’t be able to deal with the ups and downs of life (and they will come).

He told me of a study of kids ten and twenty years out of high school and those who were the bullied and the “different” were the ones who came out more successful in later life. I guess that old adage, “Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is actually true.

Of course, then I wonder, “What will actually kill him? Crystal Meth?!?” and then I’m not comforted anymore.

and by “not Franklin’s” I mean not his psychologist - although it wasn’t his party either.
