Kitchen progress is slow but sure
We’re painting. Owen is helping. We’ve got the floor and counters waiting to be installed. Iain has jury-rigged (jerry-rigged?) a cutting station outside for sawing the counter and cabinet faces. I am so, so tired of the kitchen things being everywhere but in the kitchen. And of not being able to put the baby down and help. But at least things will look nice when they’re done — Iain has 10 days to get this done, because then the last Harry Potter will arrive and he won’t be doing anything but breathing and reading until he’s finished it. Heh.

Oh my god mb how come he’s so good at this? You guys blithely decide ‘hey let’s reno the kitchen’ and like a minute later you have new counters and a sink! Christ it takes us 7 contractor visits and a bank loan and a year (so far) and I still have the same kitchen.
Does Iain do this for a living and if so can we hire him? I will snag you special library-only Harry Potter merch if it helps my case.
Nice fridge! Jealous? Me? I just keep clinking my glass into the blank door of our fridge, hoping that the icemaker will hear my call and migrate upward.
So, I don’t know… On the one hand I’m excited for you and on the other I’m like: they just had a baby and now they’re creating this fabulous kitchen and I’m, uh… Yep- Still doing absolutely nothing interesting or productive. The comparison is freaking me out.
Really though I’m totally impressed!
Hey, we’re redoing our kitchen too! Except the term “shoestring” is a bit too robust to describe our budget. (Bologna string?)
I’ve also started sewing another #@$% dress and I’m already stuck. Post forthcoming on both topics sometime in the next fortnight or so :~)
It is jury-rigged — there was a sidebar in Blueprint about that this month. Jerry-rigged is when something is shoddy, jury-rigged is when the best is made of what you have.
I know it’s insane, but I’m planning on staying up all night to read HP…thus the life of a new parent…priorities. It was sleep, now it’s Harry Potter? When did this happen?
