on Mom Jeans
I went to the thrift store today to buy some jeans. [Screw the laptop bag, I need pants].
That doesn’t sound too bad, does it? How about when I tell you that the “thrift store” is actually Plato’s Closet, which purports to be a “teen resell shop” but which never, to my knowledge, actually contains any teens. I go there to buy my own personal kind of Mom Jeans, which are Gap Long and Lean in the same size [small-ish] and same length [“ankle”] that I’ve been wearing for years now.
There just came a point where I quit trying new things, as far as my pants are concerned. These are comfortable and fit the same every time. I pick up a couple two-three pair for $15 a pop at the “thrift store” and then wear the hell out of them. Once a year I pay retail and buy new, but that only happens on my birthday.
Sick, isn’t it? Seriously, isn’t that just kind of weird? It’s kind of weird. It’s OK. You can say it.

Platos Closet here is always full of college students. Which aren’t teens but might as well be.
Not weird at all. If I could find jeans that fit me anywhere but somewhere where I have to pay full retail, I’d totally do it.
I do the same thing only I always get low-rise boot cut jeans. Never try anything else.
Ahh, love the long and leans! They make me feel so… well, long and lean. I said “feel” not look!
Plato’s Closet, never heard, must look into.
just be happy that your pants say “lean”. we can’t all say that.
When I find a shirt I like, I buy it in several colors. I figure if it fits well and looks good on me, might as well spread the wealth.
that’s not weird at all. i wish i could find the jeans that i like so much that i buy nothing else! gap jeans have unflattering pockets on me, so i’m not too into them. though it’s not the jeans’ fault, i blame my ass. heh. i have found that the levi’s low rise slouch boot cut for juniors has served me well lately. it doesn’t make sense, i know! ME! in jeans for juniors with a low rise cut! as nonsensical as it sounds, low rise pants really do work better with chubby bellies. heh. and that concludes today’s lesson on the intricacies of finding the perfect jeans.
The term I believe, is frugal. Why spend more money, time and energy when you know what feels good. I myself, am stuck on levis 501 button fly. The boy cut. And I don’t give a flying fig how I look. (Well, maybe a little fig, but I digress!)
Nice site.
thanks, redneckmommy. it is true: i don’t have the time, money or energy to shop like i used to. or to keep up with the ever-changing trends. so what i wear has to be plain, has to go with everything else i have, and fit well enough that i don’t have to think about it. it’s a method that’s worked OK so far.
