Welcome to your new Supafine

I finally just grabbed the bull by the balls or whatever the expression is and switched to WordPress.

My cPanel installation has WordPress as a one-click install. I’d been thinking about switching for a while now, because of that oh-so simple install, but I didn’t get around to it til today. My kick in the pants was Paige’s post about the work she did for a friend’s photoblog.

Here are some other pluses:

  1. PHP over Perl/CGI= a good thing for me
  2. bizarrely huge theme/plugin community
  3. plug-and-play, more so than MT
  4. it generates valid code
  5. it’s pretty
  6. the admin interface is super intuitive and easy to use
  7. GUI’s for more things than MT
  8. I was in the mood.

I was definitely in the mood for a redesign, I tell you what. But instead of scraping around and building it by hand [almost as much fun as a swift poke in the eye] I though, Hey fuck it! I’ll switch to Wordpress and use someone else’s theme.

Which is exactly what I did.

The feed’s still bunged up and there a probably a few things what need tweaking, but goddamn. It’s late.

Holy Shit! I love it - so much. Paige’s too. I want one MB! Can a less geeky girl like me handle it? Need some pocket money?

You could totally handle it, especially if you had someone take care of setting it up ‘n’ stuff. After that, it’s cake.

holy shit squared. i hit a number of my blogroll links and let them load in the background while i checked email. then i started clicking on each window to get caught up on everyone. when i looked at this window i was all “hmm. what site is this? oh damn. she redesigned!”

i really got a lot out of MT for a couple of years and then i outgrew it, or got tired of constantly having to hack into it. it’s a great program but it’s not as customizable as some others, like WP or ExpressionEngine. anyway, things look great. are you missing the sidebar??

Jess let me know if you need help - it’s super easy even without the one click install. I bet you can totally do it.

Looks great! One question…what happens to all the side bars doo-hickies? I love checking out the “word counts” now and then…oh wait you told me that was a thingy on MT, didn’t you…

patricia, i can’t claim credit for the design — only in my great taste in choosing it :) the sidebar is now at the bottom, and it’s pretty empty as you can tell.

One of the problems, ty and jess, is that WP doesn’t have the same plugins as MT, so a lot of customized stuff I used to have I don’t have anymore. I’m kind of liking it clutter free for now, though. :)
