Balto Bloggers’ Happy Hour at Little Havana tonight. And this time, I get to drink.
See you there, with bells on.
Actually, I don’t think any of them are.
So I’m sitting here, drinking Labatt and recoding some things on the ol’ blog, listening to ABBA like an utter nerd [“Young and sweet! Only 17! Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah!”]. Hopefully what you’re looking at resembles this:
If it doesn’t, then I’ve fucked up seriously somewhere. Fortunately, I can blame it on the beer.
Oh, and the ABBA.
So! How’d you spend YOUR Friday night?
Finally figured out a reason to use iTunes’ Party Shuffle feature: monitoring what’s in the lineup for your streaming submissions to audioscrobbler. Listing the next 15 tracks gives me plenty of time to make sure I get embarrassing songs like Baby Got Back off the list.
Aw, screw it. It stays in the queue. But the “Lord of the Rings” soundtrack … that’s just dorky, isn’t it?
Liking:
- Tilly and the Wall
- Stovetop popcorn
- Owen’s 7:30 p.m. bedtime
- sleeping
- Thursday playgroups
Not liking so much:
- John Mayer
- Ramen soup-in-a-cup
- Owen’s 6 p.m. freakout
- insomnia
- Wednesday deadlines
Hating:
- weather like a linebacker’s armpit.
Oh, well. At least there aren’t any cicadas.
He’s a consonant entertainer, folks.
After weeks of emphatic vowelly babbling, Owen has discovered the letter G. Or, more specifically, the sound of it. His repertoire ranges from “guh!” to “gah!” and back to “guh,” and we the peanut gallery just gobble it up.
Plus, he’s rolling over so quickly these days you’d think the feds were leaning on him.
R.I.P., Crablogs. The crab cake was a nice touch.
In related news, the Baltimore blog scene is all a-twitter over a new web-based aggregator called Blogtimore, mentioned previously here on Supafine.
After some buzz this week, the site went live this evening. The index page contains recent headlines from 53 self-submitted Baltimore blogs, which makes for a nice quick roundup of what’s new with the clique[s]. Clicking on a headline will expand to show nothing, a summary of the post, or the entire post, depending on the blogger’s XML setup. Links at the top will expand all or collapse all, which is handy for cleaning up the page. There’s even an “add to del.icio.us” script that pops up under expanded entries [which reminds me, I need to sign up with del.icio.us].
There are some tweaks that still need to be made, though; clicking on a headline will expand it but not collapse it again; “neighborhood” links at right sometimes take you nowhere [apparently none of us bloggers live in Parkville, Sherwood or Belvedere Square]; and there’s no “jump to main” link to whisk you back to the front page. Small potatoes, really. Probably my biggest pet peeve is the Mysterious Air of Mystery that Blogtimore’s founders are intent on preserving.
From the FAQ:
Who’s behind this thing?
Wouldn’t you like to know! We’re a collective of Baltimore bloggers. We live in the city, we blog regularly, and yes, we’re listed on Blogtimore, Hon. Hey, you might be one of our regular readers. But rest assured we’re no fly-by-night operation. We’re not based in the Bahamas (though we wish we were), and we’re certainly not doing this to make money.
I detest being in the dark about things. Darling Evil Internet Geniuses, don’t cloak yourselves in darkness and intrigue! That’s so Deep Throat, so 20th century. These days we’re all about full disclosure.
Anyway. Blogtimore looks to be shaping up a nice resource, a handy all-in-one. I’m listed [ooh, ooh, look for me!] and I’m sure I’ll be checking back.
And don’t forget to grab your Blogtimore button, created by the illustrious eebmore. It’s available in smart-ass and non-smart-ass flavors. [And if you really have your love on for eebmore, there’s an appropriate button here.
$1.99. Malt-O-Meal Cocoa Dyno-Bytes. The perfect accompaniment to Animation Donna — Dommie — Don — Domination.
Do they put crack in this stuff?
Never said I was on top of these things lately.
So there’s another Blogger happy hour coming up in June, and I want to go. It’s being organized by neckbone, Jason Thomas, and islendingabull, and it looks like it will be June 15, 5:30 p.m., at Little Havana. Hope to see y’all there, barring baby inconveniences.
See that, Owen? Mama called you an inconvenience. You’re hobbling her in her quest to get her drunk on.
