Geeky things I’ve been thinking about.
Tiger Field Guide: Macworld’s guide for Apple’s newest cat — I mean, latest OS.
Preventing Mac Disasters: Kind of like basic car maintenance for your computer.
Are Macs really More Expensive? Answer: No. And … no. [via]
iPhoto Prints: Giving lazy new mothers another reason to stay home with the baby.
What the fashionable ‘pods are wearing: One of these days I’ll make another, better cozy for mine. But not out of a milk jug. No offense.
Still looking for a good resource on AppleScripting and backing up one’s Mac. Suggestions? For someone without a Superdrive, that is?

One of the many reasons I love reading your blog, besides those adorable baby pics, is because you’re a fellow Mac junkie. I have to admit that I’ve fallen behing in my mac knowledge, due in part to my old first edition blueberry iBook which just can’t handle these new programs (how I lust after iPhoto), so I don’t have any suggestions for you. I was wondering though, what would you suggest as far as the new Macs out now? I’m going to purchase a new system in a month or two and I don’t even know where to begin… eMac, iMac, iBook, G4, G5- it’s too much excitement and stimulation for the brain.
Ach! Where to start! There are plenty of people more knowledgable and wise in the Way of the Mac than I, but here’s my recommendation:
Smalldog.com.
And then:
Mac for business or Mac for pleasure? We have an eMac desktop, G4, with extra RAM, and it suits us fine. Consumer model and all that. Now, if I had boatloads of money, I’d get the 15-inch G4 Powerbook with Superdrive plus a copy of Creative Suite [2, if it’s out yet]. I think Apple recently loaded them with more hard drive space - putting it at 80GB — and a faster processor — 1.67 GHz, but maybe i’m remembering incorrectly.
I use a G5 Power Mac at work, and that’s nice, too. Single processor I think but I haven’t actually checked.
Oh! New macs are so exciting! And then you could get iLife 5 and have all sorts of fun! So jealous.
Wow, I definitely have some reasearch to do. I have heard about iLife and I can’t wait to try out all of the great new mac software that isn’t kosher with os9.1. Thanks for the suggestions!
Alright, alright…I’ll bite. What sort of backup do you want to be doing, how often, and how much data? I’ll point you in the right direction. Your copy of Tiger may or may not be in the mail too, sweetie.
Anyone with the good sense to read this blog AND do it from a Mac, feel free to drop me a line if you need a hand. I just dropped Tiger on all three systems and I AM SO JAZZED. You all have my e-mail now, and I could use a little karma.
Tiger Server didn’t even bite me as badly as the last go ‘round. Apple Systems Engineers of the world rejoice!
This really is soooo damn cool, even on my old Cube. See? Dashboard goes up, Dashboard goes down. Dashboard goes up? Dashboard goes down. Alicia thinks I’m out of my mind now, but WAIT ‘TIL SHE SEES…oh nevermind.
Of course, this means that you have to tune up that RSS feed so I can have the Amazing Supafine RSS Feed Screen SaverÆ
I ramble.
