Some principled journalist I am.
I can’t help it, OK? I have to see Shattered Glass, and now that it’s out on DVD, I can. I already read the book. And you can bet your shorts that I’ll be reading Jayson Blair’s book, and Jack Kelley’s too, if he ever writes one.
These guys are fascinating — they’ve got the entire journalism world at their feet, and they spit on it and throw it away. Doesn’t that make you want to know why? I suppose that’s why I gobble this kind of trash up — the need to know what makes these guys tick.
That, and the helpful morality tale they provide.

There’s an irony, though —- they still come out on top. The books may be confessional, but they’re subversive from a morality tale point of view, since the author still get royalties.
You know, you’re right. I know that. I guess I hope that by renting their works, I’m not putting that money quite so directly into their lying, plagiarizing pockets.
Better yet —- use the library! They buy the book anyway.
Duh, I shoulda thought of that.
Ah ha, see? That’s my M.O. Works pretty well so far, except for the whole shady Patriot Act “the feds can see my renting history if they want to” thing. But other than that … .
I love libraries.
